The Golden Groundsel or Senecio Aureus is native to eastern North America. This yellow flowering plant can be found all the way from Canada to Florida and west as far as Texas. This plant grows approximately 2.5 feet tall and 1.5 feet wide. The Golden Groundsel is in bloom from May to July. This plants bright yellow flowers are hermaphroditic having both male and female organs and are also pollinated by insects. They can be found in all types of soils from sandy, to loamy, to hard clay but are most commonly found in the woods, upland swamps, damp thickets and praries.
Uses
The Golden Groundsel was commonly used by Native Americans to treat an assortment of complaints of the female reproductive system including to ease the pain of childbirth. After more recent research, medicinal uses for this plant are not recommended.
