Buttercups can primarily be found in rich or dry woods and grow to a high of 15-90 cm tall with an erect stem. They have a yellow flower, 1-4 cm across, with 5-10 oblong petals. Its leaves alternate, palmately divided into 3 lobed or divided segments. Commonly the basal leaves will be as wide as it is long. Buttercups bloom from April to May and have stiff hairs on its stems, giving the plant its common name (bristly buttercup).
