Exhibition Opens on Friday, February 4th
(Boone, NC) – After some weather related delays, preliminary Judging for the 8th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition has been completed resulting in the selection of 46 images to be exhibited at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts in Boone, NC. A list of exhibiting photographers can be viewed on the AMPC blog.
The public will get their first glimpse of this year’s accepted works on display at the Mezzanine Gallery of the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts during the Downtown Boone First Friday Art Crawl on February 4. Images will remain on exhibition through June 4, 2011.
The jurors selected for the 8th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition have made a broad impact with their work. “Each year we look to select three photographers to jury the competition, each of whom can offer a unique perspective to the process” said Andrew Miller, Competition Director. “I am really excited about the backgrounds and accomplishments of this year’s jurors and that two of them have seen a great deal of success in the AMPC.”
Judges for the 8th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition include: award winning photographer Eric Heistand; Matt Powell, photographer and videographer on staff with Samaritans Purse; and Jessica Maceda, author of the photoblog Wayfaring Wanderer.
Once the exhibition opens, judges will reconvene to view the final presentation of selected works and conduct the last round of judging. A winning image will be identified in each of the seven competition categories and one image will be selected as Best in Show. The public will also get a chance to nominate their favorite image through the Footsloggers People’s Choice Award.
People’s Choice voting will begin on Friday March 4th and visitors to the Turchin Center can cast their votes through a kiosk located in the Mezzanine gallery. Those not able to make the trip to the gallery can visit www.appmtnphotocomp.org to view the exhibited images and vote online. Voting for the Footsloggers People’s Choice Award will remain open through 5pm on Friday, April 1.
