(Winston-Salem, NC) – The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation (www.brpfoundation.org) and the National Park Service, Blue Ridge Parkway have signed an agreement establishing goals and objectives associated with fundraising efforts, prioritizing funding of projects or programs, establishing accountability requirements for all funds raised and review processes for prospective contributions and other operation guides to enhance the ongoing relationship between the National Park Service, Blue Ridge Parkway and the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation.
The Foundation has provided over 2 million dollars of funding for programs, projects and endowments benefiting the Blue Ridge Parkway. Founder and CEO of the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation, Dr. Houck Medford stated that he is “privileged to sign this agreement with the National Park Service continuing the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation’s mission of being the primary private fundraising organization for the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation is a strong defender of the Parkway, funding needed projects that enhance and protect the natural, cultural, historic and recreational qualities of the Blue Ridge Parkway. This agreement allows us to continue our independent private fundraising efforts and further strengthens the commitment between the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and the National Park Service, Blue Ridge Parkway to this American treasure.”
The Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation has partnered with the Parkway since 1997 as an independent private 501(c)3 support foundation, assisting in the preservation, protection, interpretation, and enjoyment of the Blue Ridge Parkway for future generations. The Foundation was established to aid the management programs and objectives of the Parkway by: identifying and cultivating the constituency of the Blue Ridge Parkway as a philanthropic resource and by raising funds to add a margin of excellence to existing and new programs of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
In its role as a philanthropic resource to the Parkway, the Foundation conducts major fundraising campaigns to provide a financial base and ongoing source of funding for the Blue Ridge Parkway’s outreach programs, such as Parks as Classrooms.
