(Asheville, NC) Storm damage clean-up continues on the Blue Ridge Parkway in North Carolina. A contractor will begin working at Milepost 290 at the Thunder Hill Parking Overlook on Monday, August 2, and continue north to Milepost 275 at Deep Gap. Visitors should avoid this area to prevent delays in travel.
Gate closures will be in effect daily from Milepost 288 at Aho Gap to Milepost 285.5 at Bamboo Gap from Tuesday, August 3rd through August 6th, 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m.
Recommended Detours
Southbound traffic leaving the Parkway at Milepost 285.5 should take a left onto Little Laurel Road, right onto Bamboo Road, left onto Deerfield Road to State Route 321 at Boone, and then travel State Route 321 south back to the Parkway. The detour is approximately 8.5 miles long.
Northbound traffic leaving the Parkway should take State Route 321 north, turn right onto Deerfield Road, right onto Bamboo Road, left onto Little Laurel Road, and then right back to the Parkway. The detour is approximately 8.5 miles long.
