Mile-Long Petition Against Coal-Fired Power Plant
May 08, 2008
Appalachian Voices has been campaigning to bring awareness about environmental impacts Mountaintop Removal has on the Blue Ridge Mountains. Over 30,000 people have signed the Mile Long Petition asking Dominion Virginia Power to not build a coal-fired power plant in Southwest Virginia's Wise County.
On May 8, supporters are invited to travel to Richmond to join hundreds of Virginians and other concerned citizens to deliver the petition. A rally is scheduled to take place at 12:30 pm at Kanawa Plaza in downtown Richmond, Virginia.
Free transportation will be provided from Charlottesville and Blacksburg, and both free transportation and lodging will be provided for those traveling from the Virginia coalfields. To sign up for free transportation and/or lodging, email Mike at Appalachian Voices, or call him at 434-293-6373.
