This is the Blue Ridge Parkway fall color report for November 5th, 2007. November has arrived, and although we typically think of fall color as extending only through October, there is still a lot of leaf change to take place here in early to mid November. Especially in the valleys around the James River or Roanoke, Virginia, and in the Asheville, North Carolina area. Plenty of patches of color or even individual isolated trees will delight leaf-peepers well into November. As the leaves fall from the trees, we are reminded of two safety items as well. Dry leaves can be a very real fire hazard, and wet leaves can mean slick driving conditions. Be aware of both of these when visiting the mountains this time of year. Throughout the winter, conditions dictate that we close sections of the roadway due to ice and snow. These closures can change rapidly and are updated at the Park information line, which is 828-298-0398. The cold weather brings clear atmosphere in the winter, and with leaves off the trees, the views can be spectacular. Enjoy the Parkway year round, but above all have a save visit.
