 At 469 miles in length with elevation ranges from less than 1000' to over 6000', road conditions on the Parkway can vary widely dependent upon weather conditions, roadway repairs, bridge repairs, detours, and more. Because of this, we have prepared this page which will highlight major road closures and other adverse driving conditions.
The information below is provided as-is. We gather our information from various sources including the National Park Service, other media outlets, and our own observations. We always put a date with our latest updates so you can determine the "freshness" of the content, but you should always check ahead with the National Park Service's information line, especially if you are planning a multi-day adventure. Special Road Condition Statements - Updated 4/9/2013
- Mount Mitchell State Park is open, but only accessible from the north. Read the latest update on the project.
- Heintooga Spur Road (Milepost 458.2) is closed.
- US Hwy 441 through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is closed due to a landslide.
