General Description
Hobblebush (also known as Witch Hobble) grows to a height of 1 to 2 meters tall and can be found in shaded, moist woods and ravines. The name originates from the tendency of the stem to bend over and take root (hobbling passer-bys). Leaves are heart-shaped with fine serrations around the margins and a distrinct sharp tip. Leaf veins are covered in rust colored hairs. The flowers are arranged in a flat cyme or head of small regular inner flowers with large, sterile white corollas forming and outer border. Winter buys are naked and the fruit is red in color, changing to blue. Hobblebush flowers in May and June. This shrub can grow in many locations but prefers moist, well-drained soil.
