Wildflowers of the Blue Ridge Parkway - Fly Poison

Fly poison (Amianthium muscaetoxicum) is a seasonal bulb that can grow between 1.5-4 feet tall. The white flowers have six petals and are in terminal raceme. Flowers begin to show up in May and continue until July. The blossoms are almost always white. The plant's lifespan typically ranges between 1-3 years.

This plant can be fatal if internally ingested. This plant should be kept out of pastures and away from livestock grazing areas as livestock eating this plant will pass along toxins to a human. These toxins will cause headaches, dizziness, extreme thirst, severe vomiting, and cardiac irregularity, leading to coma or death.
