General Description
Blazing Star (also known as Dense Gayfeather) is an erect, slender perennial that reaches a height of 3-4 ft. It has linear, grass-like leaves that are clumped toward the base of the plant but extended up the stem to the showy flower cluster. It also has purple (sometimes white), tufted flower heads that are arranged in a long, dense spike bloom from the top down.
The Blazing Star has green foliage with its greatest bloom observed in late summer. Leaves are not retained from year to year and the plant has a moderate lifespan with a slow growth rate.

Uses
Blazing Star is believed to be extremely effective when used as as a local application for the treatment of sore throats. It has also been known to be used in treating kidney diseases. The aromatic leaves and roots are commonly added to potpourri and various herbal insect repellents.
