Wildflowers of the Blue Ridge Parkway - Bellflower

Bellflower

General Description

Bellflower (campanula americana) grows mainly in the Great Plains and eastern coast of America. Its flowers range from light blue to violet and can usually be found in elongated clusters. This species of Bellflower is unusual because its flowers are usually flay and not the typical bell shape. Seeds germinating in the fall and produce annual plants while seeds germinating in the spring produce biannual plants. The Bellflower is insect-pollinated as it does not usually pollinate itself.
