The first overlook, often called "Balcony View" or "Upper Falls View", but not formally named, can be reached by traveling .5 of a mile along the Erwin's View Trail. It displays a gorgeous view of the smaller, upper falls and a glimpse of the lower falls as the water flows out of sight. You can hear the force of the water rushing overtop and through the rocks and you can begin to see where the river has slowly worn away the rocks over time.
