Blue Ridge Parkway Resources for Education in Virginia

The Parkway in Virginia offers core programs closely tied to the state's Standards for Learning Objectives for elementary grades. Scheduling a field trip and instructor for the PAC program is a little easier when you know the right person to contact.

Lorrie Knies conducts programs in schools around Augusta, Albemarle, Rockbridge and Nelson counties. Lorrie can be reached at (540) 932-3065 or by mail at the Blue Ridge Parkway office at 133 Whetstone Ridge Drive, Vesuvius, VA 24483. If you have trouble reaching her, you can email Lorrie at Lorrie_Knies@nps.gov.

Diane Garland conducts programs in schools around Roanoke, Floyd, Patrick, and Carroll counties. Diane can be reached at (540) 745-9661 by telephone or by mail at the Blue Ridge Parkway office at 1670 Blue Ridge Parkway, Floyd, VA 24091. If you have trouble reaching her, you can email Diane at Diane_Garland@nps.gov.

You can also contact any of the following Parkway offices to arrange field trips.

James River and Montebello

The James River water gap and restored canal locks offer students the opportunity to see low-elevation fauna and flora along the Parkway and to trace some of the early history of transportation routes in the Commonwealth.
