GRANDFATHER MOUNTAIN, NC- Due to the enthusiasm expressed by volunteers on National Trails Day, Grandfather Mountain will host a volunteer weekend July 18-19.
“As Grandfather’s backcountry changes from private ownership to state ownership, volunteers are needed to help us fill in the gaps during our transitional summer. The volunteer work done in a day is a month’s worth of work for us,” said Grandfather Mountain Trails Manager Luke Appling.
Volunteer efforts over the past three decades have proved to be a tremendous aid to the health and safety of Grandfather’s trails. This year volunteers are needed more than ever to help Grandfather Mountain as it transitions to a state park.
Grandfather will have projects ranging from installing water bars to painting trail blazes. Sandwiches and free admission to the park on the days of service will be provided for all participants. Bring your family and friends or service organization July 18-19 to assist Grandfather and the State of North Carolina with some much needed trail maintenance.
