Thomas Wolfe, considered to be one of the essential minds of 20th Century American Literature, lived in Asheville, NC at his mother’s boarding house, the Old Kentucky Home, for over ten years. This simple Victorian home—now known as the Thomas Wolfe Memorial—was depicted as “Dixieland” in Wolfe’s famous novel "Look Homeward, Angel," a book known for its realistic, often caustic writings about the city of Asheville and its thriving community.

Since 1949, the Old Kentucky Home has been preserved as a North Carolina State Historic Site and remains one of American literature’s most famous landmarks. Guided tours offer visitors a chance to take an up close look at this famous property and museum. Inside, visitors can view an audio-visual presentation on Wolfe’s works and life, examine artifacts and family photos, and explore the 29 exceptional rooms featuring many of the original furnishings.
