Grandfather Mountain is a globally significant nature preserve and is the highest peak in the Blue Ridge Mountain range. Guests drive to the summit where they cross the famous Mile High Swinging Bridge and view thrilling 360-degree views of the surrounding region.
Seven animal habitats offer close-up views of native wildlife including otters, cougars, eagles and bears in natural settings. An excellent museum interprets the mountain’s natural history. Other features include a restaurant and gift shops, picnic areas, walking trails and challenging ridge-top hiking trails. Naturalist programs, guided hikes, and behind-the-scenes tours are available by reservation.
