7th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition Finalists Announced

March 1, 2010

(Boone, NC) ‐ Preliminary Judging for the 7th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition has been completed and forty‐seven images have been selected for exhibition from 1,116 total submissions. This year’s competition received entries from 14 states, Kosovo and Quebec. Names of the finalists can be viewed on the AMPC blog.

The public will get their first glimpse of this year’s accepted works on display at the Mezzanine Gallery of the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts during the Downtown Boone Art Crawl on Friday, March 5. Images will remain on exhibition through June 5, 2010.

Judges for the 7th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition included Troy Tuttle, Senior Photographer for Appalachian State University; Jamie Goodman, Communications Coordinator for Appalachian Voices; and portrait photographer Katie Langley.

Once opened, the AMPC Judges will visit the exhibit at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts to complete the final round of judging. A winning image will be identified in each of the seven competition categories and one image will be selected as Best in Show. The public will also get a chance to nominate their favorite image through the Footsloggers People’s Choice Award.

People’s Choice voting will begin with the March 5th opening of the exhibition and visitors to the Turchin Center can cast their votes through a kiosk located in the Mezzanine gallery. Those not able to make the trip to the gallery can visit www.appmtnphotocomp.org to view the exhibited images and vote online. Voting for the Footsloggers People’s Choice Award will remain open through 5pm on Friday, March 26.
