6th Annual Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition Organizers Announce Award Winners

April 3, 2009

(Boone, NC) – Organizers of the Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition today announced the winners of its 2009 competition.

Eric Heistand and his image Splash or Trash entered in the Adventure Category took top honors receiving the designation of Best in Show and also capturing the coveted People's Choice Award. This year marked the largest participation to date in the People's Choice Award with more than 2,500 votes cast. Eric will take home cash awards totaling $850 furnished by Footsloggers Outdoor and Travel Outfitters and through competition proceeds.

Category Winners acknowledge the top image in each of the seven competition categories. Winners of the Blue Ridge Parkway categories will receive cash awards furnished by the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and all others will receive Mast General Store prize packages.

Judges were also asked to identify images of distinction and merit to receive Special Mention honors and an additional eight photographers have been recognized.

All forty-seven images selected for the 2009 exhibition will remain on display in the Mezzanine Gallery of the Turchin Center for the visual arts through June 6. Images from all 6 years of the competition can be viewed www.HighCountryPhotos.com.
