2008 Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition

Parkway's Premier Photography Contest Announced

January 7th, 2008

Boone, NC (January 7th, 2008) –This 5-years in the running competition provides both amateur and professional photographers the opportunity to showcase their interpretation of the unique character, people, places, and pursuits that distinguish the Blue Ridge Parkway as America’s favorite journey.

Filing deadline is February 9. Online submissions are encouraged.

Categories in the Blue Ridge Parkway component include Blue Ridge Parkway Share the Journey® and Blue Ridge Parkway Vistas. Categories more generic to the southern Appalachians include Adventure, Culture, Environment, Flora/Fauna, and Landscape.

Prize packages and cash awards are generous with approximately 40 images being selected for exhibition. Awards are in 9 separate categories, which includes additional “Best in Show” and “People’s Choice” awards .

The “People's Choice Award” will be determined by online voting beginning March 7.

Highlights from the competition will tour 12 monthly venues in western North Carolina and Virginia.

This competition is co-sponsored by Appalachian State University.
