2008 Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition

PRINT PDF ENTRY PROCEDURES

The Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition (AMPC) is a program of ASU’s Outdoor Programs in partnership with the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts. This competition is open to amateur and professional photographers and provides an opportunity to showcase their interpretation of the unique character, people, places, and pursuits that distinguish the Southern Appalachians.

ENTRIES & PAYMENT

Entry formats accepted for the competition are:

  • High quality JPG submission file size not to exceed 3mb via virualblueridge.com competition portal
  • Color and/or black and white prints, unmatted and unframed, placed in a clear protective sleeve with minimum dimension of any one side not to be below 8” and maximum dimension of any one side not to exceed 16”.
  • Size Restrictions apply
  • 35mm slides, labeled with photographer’s name. The submission of original slides is not recommended.

Entrant’s must complete the online registration, upload digital images or mail prints and slides, and payment must be confirmed for entries to be accepted.

A $5 non-refundable fee is charged per image/photograph entered. Online submissions may be paid by Credit Card (Visa or MasterCard) at the time of image upload. Prints and slides mailed or delivered to the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts may be paid by cash, check, Money Order (Made out to “TCVA”) or Credit Card (Visa or MasterCard).

To be accepted for the judging process:

  • photographers may submit a maximum of three (3) entries per category, for a total of eighteen (21) images
  • All submissions must be accompanied by a completed registration form and prints and slides should be labeled on the back with Photographer’s Name, Category and the number of entry (IE: John Smith / Culture / 1 of 3)
  • All prints and slides must be placed in a clear protective sleeve

SUBMITTAL & DELIVERY

Entries must be received via online registration and upload or delivery to the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts no later than 6:00PM on Saturday, February 9. TCVA Hours are Tuesday – Thursday and Saturday 10am-6pm, Friday 12-8pm and Closed Sunday and Monday.

A SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope) must accompany all print and slide entries that the participant would like to have returned via mail at the conclusion of the AMPC judging process. Entries not selected for the exhibition will be returned via mail only to those photographers providing a SASE. To avoid damage while mailing, entries should be appropriately placed in clear plastic sleeves and accompanied by a cardboard or foam core insert.

Photographers chosen for exhibition will be notified by phone on Friday, February 15. All other print and slide entries, not chosen for exhibition, will be mailed back to the participant (if SASE is included) or will be available for pickup beginning Friday, February 15th. All images not claimed as of March 14, 2008 - from the Turchin Center will become property of Appalachian State University’s Outdoor Programs.
