 ENTRY GUIDELINES
The Appalachian Mountain Photography Competition (AMPC) is a program of ASU’s Outdoor Programs in partnership with the Blue Ridge Parkway Foundation and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts. This competition is open to amateur and professional photographers and provides an opportunity to showcase their interpretation of the unique character, people, places, and pursuits that distinguish the Southern Appalachians.
- Entries may include traditional 35mm film, digital photography and alternative processes. Images must have been taken within the past 5 years.
- Entries will be judged by a panel of photography experts on the basis of composition, technique, content, originality, and effectiveness in conveying the character of the Southern Appalachian region.
- Approximately 40 entries will be chosen for exhibition in the Mezzanine Gallery located at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts beginning March 7th through June 7th, 2008. Six (6) images from each category will be chosen for exhibition.

Participants may enter a maximum of three (3) images in each of the following six (7) categories:
- ADVENTURE - Imagery depicting mountain sports such as climbing, kayaking, mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, etc.
- BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY VISTAS - Imagery of aesthetic subject matter in which natural scenery depicting various resources connected to the Blue Ridge Parkway are represented.
- BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY SHARE THE JOURNEY® - Imagery depicting themes of the collective Parkway experience of individuals, families, friends, pets, and special events.
- CULTURE - Imagery depicting the people, their customs, traditions, and ways of life unique to the Southern Appalachian region
- ENVIRONMENT - Imagery that communicates the significance and/or threats to the Southern Appalachian environment.
- FLORA/FAUNA - Imagery of plants and animals common to the Southern Appalachians.
- LANDSCAPE - Imagery of aesthetic subject matter in which natural scenery depicting the Southern Appalachian region represented.
- While every care will be taken with slides and photographs submitted to AMPC, Appalachian State University, Outdoor Programs, and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts are not responsible for loss of or damage to any entry.
- For entries incorporating the use of figurative models: model releases are the responsibility of the participant.
- The signature and the completion of the entry process constitutes understanding of the conditions set forth in this document including the right of AMPC, Appalachian State University’s Outdoor Programs, and the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts to document, reproduce, publish and photograph entries for promotional purposes and exhibition archives.
- Photographers whose work has been chosen for exhibition will be asked to submit a framed and matted print with minimum print dimensions of any one side not to be less than 10 inches and maximum print dimensions of any one side not to exceed 25 inches no later than 6pm on Saturday, March 1, 2008. Shipping and/or delivery will be the responsibility of the photographer. Photographers will be given specific framing guidelines upon notification.
